Many couriers, for example GLS, DPD and Austrian Post, need the house number in its own field on the shipping label. Shopify has no house number field, so customers usually type it into the street line (address line 1), and it does not always come out right. If you ask customers to enter the house number in address line 2 instead, ShipDock can send that value to the courier as the house number.
The setting changes what ShipDock sends when it creates shipping labels. Creating labels needs the Full plan.
The setting is off by default and applies to all couriers in ShipDock.
Plan the Shopify side too (steps 2 and 3). Without it, customers keep typing apartment numbers and similar notes into address line 2.
When the setting is on and the order has an address line 2, ShipDock uses that value as the house number when it creates the label:
Couriers with a separate house number field get the value in that field.
Couriers with a single street line get the street followed by the house number. If the customer already typed the same number at the end of the street, ShipDock does not add it twice.
Address line 2 is no longer sent as additional address information (for example as the note of a Packeta packet), so it does not appear on the label twice.
If address line 2 is empty, nothing changes for that order.
A house number you enter on the order with Edit order → Override shipping address takes priority over address line 2.
In ShipDock, open Settings → General.
Scroll to the Address handling card.
Select Use address line 2 as house number.
Click Save in the bar at the top of the page.
Shopify labels the second address line Apartment, suite, etc. by default. With that label, customers enter apartment numbers, floors or door codes, and ShipDock would print them as the house number. Rename the field so it clearly asks for the house number:
In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes, click … (three dots) and choose Edit default theme content (or Edit languages).
Search for Apartment (or address2).
Replace the label and the placeholder with House number. Do not mention apartment, suite or floor.
If your store has more languages, change the text in every language, for example Hausnummer or Číslo domu.
So that every order has a house number:
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Checkout.
In the customer information section, set Address line 2 to Required.
Some Packeta partner carriers for home delivery, for example in Germany, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Spain or the Netherlands, need a separate house number. When an order to such a carrier has no house number (the setting is off, or address line 2 is empty), ShipDock tries to split the house number off address line 1, using the usual address format of the destination country. Check the result if the courier rejects the address. See Packeta: common errors and how to fix them.
ShipDock sends whatever the customer types into address line 2. Flat 4 or 2nd floor ends up as the house number. That is why step 2 matters.
The setting applies to labels created after you turn it on. Labels that already exist do not change.
The label shows an apartment or floor as the house number. The field in your checkout still asks for something other than the house number. Rename it (step 2), then fix the order: Edit order → Override shipping address, enter the street in Street (address 1) and only the number in House number, save and create the label again.
The house number is missing on the label. The customer left address line 2 empty and the street line has no number. Fix the order with Override shipping address as above, and consider making address line 2 required (step 3).
