How to enable carrier-calculated shipping (CCS)

Check whether your Shopify plan includes carrier-calculated shipping, ask Shopify support to turn it on, and activate it in ShipDock.

Carrier-calculated shipping (CCS) is the Shopify feature that lets an app add shipping rates to checkout live. ShipDock needs it for two of its rate options: CCS - Dynamic Rates and CCS - Nearest Pickup Points. Manual rates mapping works without it.

Shopify decides whether your store has CCS. ShipDock can only use it once Shopify has turned it on.

Which Shopify plans include CCS

  • Shopify Plus and Advanced: included.

  • Grow: available. With yearly billing it is included, with monthly billing Shopify charges an extra monthly fee. Shopify support adds it for you.

  • Basic and other plans: not available.

Shopify can change these terms. See Shopify's help article on third-party carrier-calculated shipping for the current conditions and price.

Step 1: Check the status in ShipDock

  1. In ShipDock, open Settings → General.

  2. In Carrier Calculated Shiping (CCS), look at the Status card:

    • CCS feature on your store is enabled and active: you're done. Continue with step 4.

    • CCS is not enabled for your Shopify plan. Please upgrade your Shopify plan or contact Shopify support to enable it.: continue with step 2.

In the courier settings, the CCS options are greyed out with the badge Store don't support CCS until CCS is active.

Step 2: Ask Shopify support to enable it

  1. Go to the Shopify Help Center and log in with the store owner account.

  2. Start a chat with the virtual assistant and ask to talk to a live agent.

  3. When asked, choose the store that needs CCS.

  4. Ask the agent to enable the Carrier Calculated Shipping API (third-party carrier-calculated shipping) for your store. You can use one of these messages:

    • On Advanced: "Hi, I'm on the Shopify Advanced plan and would like to enable the Carrier Calculated Shipping API for my store to use with the ShipDock app."

    • On Grow: "Hi, I'm on the Grow plan and would like to add the Carrier Calculated Shipping API to my store to use with the ShipDock app. What does it cost on my billing?"

  5. Wait until the agent confirms it is active.

Step 3: Activate CCS in ShipDock

  1. In ShipDock, open Settings → General again.

  2. In the Status card, click Reactive. ShipDock adds its rate service, called Shipdock - Shipping rates, to your store.

  3. The status changes to CCS feature on your store is enabled and active.

If you see CCS feature is not still active on your store. Please contact Shopify support to activate it or let us know if the issue persists., Shopify hasn't turned CCS on yet. Check with Shopify support, then click Reactive again.

Step 4: Add the ShipDock rates in Shopify

Shopify shows ShipDock rates at checkout only where you add them. Where you do that depends on how your store manages shipping:

  • Shipping profiles and zones: in Shopify admin, Settings → Shipping and delivery lists shipping profiles with zones (countries). Most stores still work this way. Follow "Stores with shipping zones" below.

  • Shipping options per market (market-driven shipping): shipping is set up in Markets, each market has its own Shipping section, and Settings → Shipping and delivery no longer lists zones. Follow "Stores with market-driven shipping" below.

Stores with shipping zones

When you save a courier with CCS - Dynamic Rates or CCS - Nearest Pickup Points, ShipDock adds Shipdock - Shipping rates to the zones that cover the countries you set up for that courier. It runs in the background, so it can take a moment to show in Shopify. Check it, and add it by hand where it is missing:

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Shipping and delivery and open your shipping profile.

  2. Next to every zone (country) where ShipDock should offer rates, click Add rate.

  3. Choose Use carrier or app to calculate rates, then choose Shipdock - Shipping rates (Rates provided by app).

  4. Click Done and Save.

Stores with market-driven shipping

info icon
What is market-driven shipping? Shopify is moving shipping settings into Markets. Instead of shipping profiles and zones in Settings → Shipping and delivery, you set up shipping options for each market. Rollout: since 1 October 2026, stores can switch to it, and Shopify moves stores over gradually. From 1 July 2027, all stores use market-driven shipping. Until your store switches, follow "Stores with shipping zones" above.

ShipDock can't add its rates to markets for you. Add them once per market:

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Markets and open the market where ShipDock should offer rates.

  2. Click Shipping, then Add shipping option.

  3. In Rate type, choose Carrier or app calculated.

  4. Choose Shipdock - Shipping rates and select its services.

  5. Leave the handling fee empty. You set ShipDock prices in ShipDock, and a fee here would be added on top of them.

  6. Click Done, then Save.

  7. Repeat for every market with its own shipping settings. A market that inherits shipping from its parent market uses the parent's options. If you clicked Customize under Shipping in a market, it has its own options and needs the ShipDock option too.

You can turn the ShipDock option off in a market (More actions → Set as inactive), but you can't change ShipDock's rates there. Prices, names and conditions stay in ShipDock.

Then set up the rates in ShipDock

In ShipDock, set up the rates on the courier's Pickup points or Home delivery tab with CCS - Dynamic Rates or CCS - Nearest Pickup Points. See How to set up shipping rates.

Turn CCS off

Disable Carrier API in the same Status card removes the ShipDock rate service from your store. Checkout then shows no ShipDock rates. If you click Reactive later, check in Shopify that Shipdock - Shipping rates is still added to your zones or markets (step 4).

Troubleshooting

Reactive still says CCS is not active

Shopify hasn't enabled CCS for your store yet, or not on this store. Contact Shopify support again and name the store. If Shopify confirms CCS is on and ShipDock still can't activate it, contact ShipDock support: we can try to set up the rate service for your store manually.

CCS is active, but checkout shows no ShipDock rates

  • Shipdock - Shipping rates is added to the zone of the customer's country, or, with market-driven shipping, as an active shipping option in the customer's market.

  • The courier uses CCS - Dynamic Rates or CCS - Nearest Pickup Points, and the customer's country is set up there.

  • A pricing rule matches the cart. If the cart's weight or price is outside your ranges, the rate is hidden on purpose.

ShipDock rates cost more than you set

With market-driven shipping, check the handling fee on the ShipDock shipping option in the market. Shopify adds it on top of ShipDock's price.
