How to connect GLS

Connect your GLS account (myGLS or ShipIT) to ShipDock to create GLS labels, offer GLS pickup points and send cash on delivery.

Connect your GLS account to ShipDock to create GLS shipping labels from your Shopify orders, let customers pick a GLS ParcelShop or locker, and send cash on delivery (COD). ShipDock talks to GLS through one of two GLS systems, depending on the country you ship from:

  • myGLS: you ship from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Romania, Slovenia or Serbia. The cards are GLS CZ - myGLS, GLS SK - myGLS, GLS HU - myGLS, GLS HR - myGLS, GLS RO - myGLS, GLS SI - myGLS and GLS RS - myGLS.

  • ShipIT: you ship from Germany, Poland, Denmark, Portugal, Luxembourg, Ireland, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Spain or Switzerland. The cards are GLS DE - ShipIT, GLS PL - ShipIT and so on. Ireland is shown as GLS EI - ShipIT.

The two systems use different login details. The steps below show both.

Before you start

  • A GLS contract with the GLS company in the country you ship from, and API access from GLS:

    • myGLS: a Client Id, a Username / Email and a Password. The app's help text says GLS support generates them.

    • ShipIT: an Api Key and a Secret Key generated in the GLS developer portal (dev-portal.gls-group.net), a Contact Id from GLS support, and, for the ShipIT connection type, the GLS Server URL GLS created your account on.

  • ShipDock plan: Lite is enough to connect GLS and show GLS pickup points. Creating labels needs the Full plan.

  • Test login (optional): GLS has a test environment. Test logins are different from production logins, so ask GLS for both if you want to try it first.

Connect GLS in ShipDock

  1. In ShipDock, open Providers and click Create provider. (On the home page you can also click Add a carrier.)

  2. In the country selector, choose the country you ship from. Only the GLS variant for that country is shown.

  3. On the GLS card (for example GLS CZ - myGLS or GLS DE - ShipIT), click Select. The courier is created and its detail page opens on the General tab.

  1. In the Connection card, turn on Connect provider throught API if it is off. The login fields appear only when it is on.

  2. In Connection mode, keep Production for real shipments. Choose Sandbox / Development only if you are testing with GLS test login details.

  3. Fill in the login fields for your GLS system (see the two sections below).

  4. In the Status panel on the right, choose Active. A new courier starts as Inactive.

  5. Click Save in the save bar at the top of the page.

Note: Each GLS variant can be connected once per store. If the card button says Used, that variant is already connected: open it from Providers. You can connect several variants side by side, for example GLS CZ and GLS DE, each with its own login.

myGLS fields (CZ, SK, HU, HR, RO, SI, RS)

  • Client Id: Your GLS client number.

  • Username / Email: The login from GLS support.

  • Password: The password from GLS support.

Then fill in the Sender details card: Name, Street, City, ZIP Code, Country, Phone and Email. This is the sender printed on your GLS labels.

ShipIT fields (DE, PL, DK, PT, LU, IE, AT, FR, NL, ES, CH)

  • Connection type: ShipIT or ShipIT Farm, as agreed with GLS. GLS DE starts on ShipIT Farm, the other countries on ShipIT.

  • GLS Server URL: Only for ShipIT. The server GLS created your account on, in this format: https://shipit-wbm-de01.gls-group.eu:8443.

  • Api Key: Generated in dev-portal.gls-group.net.

  • Secret Key: Generated in dev-portal.gls-group.net.

  • Contact Id: Given by GLS support.

ShipIT couriers have no Sender details card. ShipDock sends your Contact Id to GLS as the sender.

General settings

Ignore fulfillments that don’t require shipping is on by default: when a fulfillment does not require shipping, no label is created. Leave it on unless you have a reason to change it.

Set up shipping rates

Tell ShipDock which of your shipping rates go to GLS. The courier has two tabs for this:

  • Home delivery tab: for delivery to the customer's address.

  • Pickup points tab: for delivery to a GLS ParcelShop or locker the customer picks.

On each tab, under Choose integration, pick how the rates reach the checkout:

  • Manual rates mapping: you create the rates in Shopify and map them here. Under Shipping rates mapping, click Add delivery, pick the Shopify shipping rate, then choose the GLS service in Carrier. The Carrier list shows only the services available for that rate's destination country.

  • CCS - Dynamic Rates (and CCS - Nearest Pickup Points on the Pickup points tab): ShipDock calculates the rates itself. These options are available only when ShipDock's carrier-calculated rates are active in your store.

The full walkthrough is in How to set up shipping rates.

GLS services you can choose in Carrier:

  • myGLS: Business Parcel (B2C).

  • ShipIT: Parcel and Parcel Express.

On the Pickup points tab, the Exclusion card lets you hide pickup point types you do not want to offer: Parcelshop, GLS box, Alza box and Box. To let customers pick a point, also add the pickup point widget, see How to add the pickup point widget to your store.

Both tabs also have Automatically generate shipping labels (Order Fulfilled) and Automatically generate shipping labels (Order Created) (Full plan), so you can automate home delivery and pickup point orders separately.

Finally, create a test order with a GLS rate and create a label (see How to create and print shipping labels) to confirm the connection works.

What works with GLS

  • Home delivery services: Business Parcel (B2C) to 28 countries: the EU except Cyprus and Malta, plus GB, CH and NO. ShipIT (DE, PL, DK, PT, LU, IE, AT, FR, NL, ES, CH): Parcel, Parcel Express to the EU and Norway.

  • Pickup points: GLS ParcelShops, GLS lockers and Alza boxes in 20 countries: AT, BE, BG, CZ, DE, DK, ES, FI, FR, GR, HR, HU, IT, LU, NL, PL, PT, RO, SI, SK. ShipIT (DE, PL, DK, PT, LU, IE, AT, FR, NL, ES, CH): Same network.

  • Cash on delivery: Yes. ShipIT (DE, PL, DK, PT, LU, IE, AT, FR, NL, ES, CH): Yes.

  • Mark as paid automatically: Yes. ShipIT (DE, PL, DK, PT, LU, IE, AT, FR, NL, ES, CH): No.

  • Cancel from ShipDock: Yes, deleting the parcel also cancels it at GLS. ShipIT (DE, PL, DK, PT, LU, IE, AT, FR, NL, ES, CH): No, cancel it with GLS.

  • Test mode: Yes, Connection mode. ShipIT (DE, PL, DK, PT, LU, IE, AT, FR, NL, ES, CH): Yes, Connection mode.

  • Extra services per rate: Flex Delivery Service; GLS CZ also Think Green Service and Guaranteed 24 Service. ShipIT (DE, PL, DK, PT, LU, IE, AT, FR, NL, ES, CH): GLS DE, DK and PL: Flex Delivery Service and Guaranteed 24 Service (Guaranteed 24 only for deliveries to Germany; the two cannot be combined).

  • Per order: Age verification 18+, insurance value. ShipIT (DE, PL, DK, PT, LU, IE, AT, FR, NL, ES, CH): Not available.

  • Label formats: PDF, A6 or A6 on A4 (4 per page). ShipIT (DE, PL, DK, PT, LU, IE, AT, FR, NL, ES, CH): Same.

Extra services are set per shipping rate in the mapping row. For one order, open it in ShipDock and use Age verification → Verify age when dispensing (18+) or Override insurance value. Automatic mark as paid also has to be turned on in your COD settings, see How to mark COD orders as paid automatically.

Note: Flex Delivery Service is sent to GLS only when the order has a customer email.

Limits

  • GLS Belgium cannot be connected at the moment: the GLS BE - ShipIT card shows no login fields.

  • Deliveries within Serbia and Switzerland: Serbia is not among the myGLS destination countries and Switzerland is not among the ShipIT destination countries, so no service is offered for domestic rates there.

  • Outside the EU: GLS CH ships from outside the EU, and GB, CH and NO are destinations outside the EU, but ShipDock does not send customs data for GLS. Check with GLS before shipping there.

  • Cancelling ShipIT parcels: deleting a ShipIT parcel in ShipDock removes it only from ShipDock. Cancel the shipment with GLS as well.

  • Sandbox labels are not real shipments and GLS will not pick them up. Switch Connection mode back to Production before shipping real orders.

Troubleshooting

Creating a label fails with an authentication or "unauthorized" error. Check the login fields on the General tab for typos or spaces, and check that Connection mode matches the login: test login with Sandbox / Development, production login with Production.

Creating a label fails because the provider connection is disabled. Turn on Connect provider throught API on the General tab, fill in the login fields and save.

"The shipping method … is not assigned to any provider". That Shopify rate is not mapped. Map it on the Home delivery or Pickup points tab, or change the carrier on the order.

"The customer didn't select a pickup point." The order uses a pickup point rate but no GLS point was chosen. Send the customer the pickup point reminder from the order, or change the pickup point yourself.

The service I want is missing in the Carrier list. The list depends on the destination country of the mapped rate. For example, Business Parcel (B2C) is not offered for Serbia.

I deleted a ShipIT parcel but GLS still has it. ShipIT parcels are not cancelled from ShipDock. Cancel it with GLS.
